FAQ: society voting for residential societies
Is online voting legally valid for housing societies?
Many state co-op bye-laws now recognise electronic participation and voting. Maharashtra's Model Bye-laws (2025–26) explicitly allow virtual meetings and electronic voting. Always verify your society's registered rules and state regulations.
Who can vote on Plinth?
Admins choose participant groups per poll: owners, committee, tenants, or occupants. Voting can be one per flat or one per resident. Verified members who meet credential and defaulter rules can vote. Proxy voting is not supported on Plinth.
Is my vote secret?
Yes — secret by default. Admins and other members see aggregate results only, never individual choices. Societies can enable open voting per poll if their rules require it.
Can I change my vote after submitting?
No. Once cast, a vote is final — mirroring physical ballot rules. A confirmation step is shown before submission.
What poll types does Plinth support?
Yes/No, resolution (formal motion with pass/fail), single-choice, multiple-choice, and ranked-choice (instant-runoff). Multi-question polls let you bundle several questions in one session with independent results per question.
How does quorum work?
The admin sets a quorum percentage per poll. Plinth counts eligible units in the participant groups you selected (flats or residents) and determines whether quorum was met before declaring a result.
Can defaulters be blocked from voting?
Yes. Toggle Block defaulters from voting when creating a poll. Members with outstanding maintenance dues cannot cast a vote — matching ApnaComplex-style dues gates.
Do residents get reminded to vote?
Yes on Community plans and above. Plinth sends in-app and email notifications when a poll opens and reminder emails in the final 24 hours before close.
Can committee members create polls?
Yes. Society admins and committee members can use the poll wizard. Only admins manage society settings and roster import.
What is weighted voting?
Votes are counted in proportion to each flat's ownership share rather than one vote per flat. Useful for societies where carpet area or share value determines voting power.
Can owners with multiple flats vote?
Yes — each flat gets its own vote. A flat-switcher appears during voting so multi-flat owners can vote separately for each unit.
What are credential-gated polls?
Some polls require owners to upload documents (ID, ownership proof) before voting. Admins review and approve submissions; voting is blocked until approved.
How much does Plinth cost?
Free Starter plan for societies up to 30 flats (2 active polls). Paid plans from ₹15/flat/month include secret ballots, weighted voting, quorum, ranked-choice, and full audit export. See pricing.
How do NRIs vote?
They open the poll on any device during the voting window — no physical presence required.
